Kate Cochrane 2018

Artist’s Statement

Since first being able to hold a crayon Kate is at her happiest drawing and painting in her garden studio. Hr work features elements of the landscape: trees, rocks, ruins and reflections in water. The emphasis is on colour, light and composition using layers of paint and glazing.  Kate works in a variety of media including oils, acrylics, gouache, oil and dry pastels. Her enjoyment in the process of creating paintings, often combined with a struggle to express her feelings about the subject, results in a rich tapestry of colour and texture. Her hope is for the viewer to sense the passion, joy and vitality of the paintings.

Paintings have been shown at the Royal West of England Academy, The Mall, Bath Society of Arts Open, and Southampton Art Gallery. Her work can be seen at the First View Gallery, Stourhead where she is one of their resident artists.

Kate is a member of Artists 303 – a group loosely based around the A303.

Kate gained a Diploma in Graphic Design at Canterbury College of Art followed by local courses in Fine Art and in colour work. She’s exhibited paintings since 1980, designed home accessories, and recently been tutoring and running workshops.
